Pikmin Bloom alternatives: 7 walking games without the GPS grind
Pikmin Bloom is the biggest walking game there is, and most people who leave it leave for one of four reasons: the battery, the GPS, the storage upsells, or the same expedition loop for the fourth year. The seven apps below each fix at least one of those. None of them fixes all four.
Disclosure: Walk with Mo is our app, and it is the last entry. Facts about the other apps come from the US App Store listings and the developers' pages, checked in October 2026.
What Pikmin Bloom does well, so you know what you are giving up
Pikmin Bloom (Scopely, free, 4.8 stars from about 69,000 US ratings) grows seedlings into Pikmin as you walk, plants flowers along your real route, and sends your squad on expeditions for fruit. There are over 150 Decor Pikmin to collect. Friends join mushroom battles and weekly team step goals, and nobody loses anything on a lazy day. Reviewers love the creatures and the "gets me walking" effect.

The complaints are as consistent as the praise. Flower planting needs the screen on and location running, so the battery goes fast. The map play needs outdoor walks with GPS, so a treadmill gives you steps but no flowers. The free game nudges you toward $1.99 storage expansions for Pikmin, seedlings, postcards, petals and nectar. And after a few hundred expeditions the loop repeats.

If you want to keep collecting: Steps & Beasts
Every morning you get an egg. Hit your daily step goal and it hatches into one of 250+ beasts. Repeat hatches unlock gold and glitter versions, and a journey map moves your character past landmarks and chests. It reads Apple Health, so Watch steps count and a treadmill works. There is no GPS at all.

What you lose: anyone else. There are no friends, no teams, no weekly goals. The game is also built on a streak, so a missed day costs you rarer beasts. The art divides people, with several reviews calling it AI-generated. Pro runs from $0.79 a week to $29.99 a year, with lifetime unlocks between $24.99 and $49.99. iPhone and Android.
If you want friends and a long game: Walkr
Walkr has been around since 2014, which in this category is forever. Steps fuel a spaceship, you discover over 100 planets, feed their creatures and run missions. Friends become co-pilots, fleets share fuel, and leagues rank you against other captains. No GPS anywhere.

What you lose: Walkr counts the phone's own motion data, not Apple Health, so steps from an Apple Watch do not count. Ads are the top complaint in reviews, and the ad remover is $1.99 on top of a $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year plan for the rest. iPhone and Android.
If you want creatures on your wrist: Wokamon
Wokamon is the original "pedometer tamagotchi". Steps become energy that feeds and evolves creatures through candy deserts and icy realms, and it has an Apple Watch app. It is free with a topaz currency from $0.99.

What you lose: momentum. The last update was in March 2026, and reviews describe sync that breaks and ad chests with hidden close buttons. Treat it as a classic that still runs, not a game that is growing. iPhone and Android.
If you want a journey with friends: Fantasy Hike
Your real distance moves a halfling along a fantasy route to Mount Fire, with story moments at waypoints. Friends and in-game characters walk the same map, so there is a race without a leaderboard. It uses Apple Health and the Watch, no GPS. 4.8 stars from 15,000 ratings.

What you lose: a free game. The free tier caps how much distance counts per day, and most one-star reviews are about the switch to subscriptions. Premium is $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year, Family $2.99 or $24.99, Hero $9.99 or $89.99. Content gets sparse late in the route. iPhone and Android.
If the friends were the point: Stompers
Stompers drops the creatures and keeps the group. Every day is a step race inside your friend group or family, with items you throw at each other and a widget for the standings. Free to play, with a Super Stompers subscription from $4.99 a week to $39.99 a year, on iPhone and Android.

What you lose: the gentle part. Pikmin never makes you feel bad about a slow day; a daily race does. Solo it is empty. If you want a group with less edge, see our Stompers alternatives.
If you want a world to uncover indoors: MistyWay
MistyWay clears fog on a hand-drawn fantasy map with each step and reveals villages, ruins and secret places. It is built for walking without GPS, including treadmills, and has streaks with a freeze. It launched in December 2025 from a solo UK developer.

What you lose: company and depth. No friends, around a hundred ratings so far, and Premium runs from $3.99 a week to $79.99 a year with companion animals sold separately at $4.99 to $9.99. iPhone.
If you want one buddy and a few friends: Walk with Mo
Walk with Mo is ours, so read this part knowing that. Mo is a small buddy who walks through one real city a month, Paris first. Your Apple Health steps move him along one continuous street from Montmartre to the Eiffel Tower. Reaching a place gives a postcard. Every 12,000 steps a gift box gives him a piece to wear, with no duplicates and no random packs to buy. A crew of friends shares the street and races for a weekly crown.
What it keeps from Pikmin: a character you dress, things to collect, friends in the same world, and no punishment. A rest day means Mo stops and waits. What it drops: GPS and screen time. The phone can stay in your pocket all day; one open shows what the steps did. What you lose: Android, and a map of the whole world. Mo visits one city at a time, and the city changes on the first of the month.

Walk Paris with Mo
Your steps take Mo around Paris. Free on iPhone.
How to choose
- Battery was the problem: any app here. Every one of them reads steps in the background with the screen off.
- GPS was the problem: all seven work without location. If you also walk indoors, skip Walkr's phone-only counting if you wear a Watch.
- The upsells were the problem: Stompers and Walk with Mo are free to play with nothing gated by boxes. Steps & Beasts has a one-time lifetime price if you hate subscriptions.
- Boredom was the problem: Fantasy Hike ends, which is the point. Mo changes city every month.
Questions
Is there a Pikmin Bloom alternative without GPS?
Yes. Steps & Beasts, Walkr, Wokamon, Fantasy Hike, Stompers, MistyWay and Walk with Mo all play from your step count alone. None of them needs location to work.
Which apps like Pikmin Bloom work on a treadmill?
Any app that reads Apple Health counts treadmill steps as long as the phone is on you or a Watch is on your wrist. Steps & Beasts, Fantasy Hike, MistyWay and Walk with Mo all read Health. Walkr reads the phone's motion chip, so the phone has to be in your pocket.
Is Pikmin Bloom still being updated?
Yes. The App Store listing was updated in October 2026 and the game is run by Scopely, which took over Niantic's games in 2025.
What is the closest game to Pikmin Bloom with friends?
Walkr, for co-op missions and fleets. Fantasy Hike, for friends on the same route. Walk with Mo, for a small crew in the same city with a weekly crown.
